Now that the sun is beginning to peak it’s head out more often, it’s time to amp up your Spring training and use yoga balance poses to strengthen ankles, calves, inner thighs and core. Member Reviews...
Last year I saw a TRX training demonstration with former SAC trainer, Katrina Yniguez and wanted to try it. After my first TRX training, I was hooked!” says member Cathy Garrison. “In a 45 minute workout, TRX strengthens my core muscles to the point of fatigue and also provides an amazing cardio workout. TRX stepped up my fitness level one or two notches by improving my Pilates and yoga workouts while developing more core strength, agility and balance. Thomas Eagen, SAC personal trainer and also the club’s TRX training guru, is a great motivator by adding new TRX routines to enhance my workouts. It is an amazing form of exercise where you see results quickly.

Not only is it fun, but I have found TRX to be the most efficient workout I have ever done. Every moment counts and the results are amazing. I have seen a significant change in my core strength as well as my upper body. If you’re a woman looking to strengthen your triceps and get thinner arms, this is the workout for you.

The workouts are always challenging and never boring. Finally, it is fun to see how my strength has progressed. I can now do some of the exercises which I could not do when I first started. Thomas is a great instructor.

TRX with a Twist is held on Fridays at 7:15-8:00am and Tuesdays at 11:15-12:00pm. $25.00 per class.

For more information, please contact Personal Fitness Trainer Thomas Eagen.

Lose It! Recap

Lose It! Recap On January 24th the Seattle Athletic Club launched its second annual Lose It! competition boasting 40 competitors. When the last weigh in came in on April 11th we finished with over 50% of the competitors losing weight. In just 12 weeks our Grand Prize winner was David lost 14.04% of his body weight. Coming in second was Leslie losing 12.89% of her body weight. Coming in third was Thereon losing 10.31% of his body weight.

Member Reviews...
I lost 20.5 pounds over the 12 weeks and am thrilled! I can run for an hour straight at 7.5 mile/hour pace; which, has never happened. I can do 10 pull-ups – I started not being able to do any. This has been an incredible experience for me.

This has been a great experience and I feel so good!

I am taking off for a vacation in Maui and will be happily wearing my new bathing suits!! Thanks for all of your help, and please pass on my thanks...

I do intend to keep it up; it was a great program for an incentive. Those Monday weigh ins really kept me careful on the weekends when one is most likely to become more lax about a regime. Good work on the part of your very encouraging team too!

Weight loss does not have to only start with a Lose It! program. If you can start to think about you diet and exercise habits and the changes that need to be made then you have a great start. If you would like more information on how to jump start your weight loss please feel free to contact any of the Seattle Athletic Club’s qualified fitness staff or the Fitness Director Jacob Galloway or nutritionist Suzzanne Myer.

Tiny's Organic - A Farm Family Growing For You

Tiny's Organic Produce Tiny’s Organic is owned and operated by the McPherson family in East Wenatchee, WA, a family that has been in the farming business since 1979. It has been an evolution of sorts, beginning with only two varieties of apples back in the early years to what is now well over 100 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables.

Tiny’s CSA Program (Community Supported Agriculture) is a subscription program whereby members pay in advance of the season to receive a weekly bounty of fruits and vegetables for a period of 5 months starting in June of each year. Tiny’s trucks the fresh harvest to Seattle each week and makes stops and drops at over 60 different locations throughout the Puget Sound region. Members pick up their ‘share’ of produce from any location that is most convenient for them, whether it’s a place of business, an athletic club or simply a strategically located spot that services a neighborhood or community area.

A normal bag of fruit and vegetables consists of whatever is being harvested that particular week…as an example of what members can expect, the farm generally includes an equal mix of organic fruits and vegetables of 10-12 items. A June bag might consist of Rainier Cherries, Bing Cherries, Spring Snow Peaches, Astro Arugula, Apriums (a plum x apricot cross), Detroit Beets, Purplette Spring Onions, Cherry Belle Radishes, Barcarole Lettuce and Pink Lady Apples. There is always a generous amount of produce in each bag and members may in fact choose from a Standard or Small bag or even an All-Fruit bag depending on the size of their family or their own personal preference.

Running in Rome with Doug Haldeman

Mercer Island Half Marathon When I started running seriously several years ago, I never dreamed I’d get hooked on marathons – let alone in foreign countries! Yet there I was, lined up at the start of the Rome Marathon on March 20, feeling that strange mix of pre-race excitement and anxiety. To say that this wasn’t on my screen a few years ago is an understatement: I was happy, at first, just to make it the 2.8 miles around Green Lake in a half an hour. Read More...

USMS PNW Champs Recap

USMS Masters Swimming Congratulations to Jan Linville, Lisa Farin and Marla Aginian. These three ladies competed in the annual short course yards Pacific Northwest Aquatics Championship. This meet is combined with the Zone Championship event which includes swimmers from OR, ID and MT. This year there were 348 swimmers from the WA, OR and Canada. Jan, Lisa and Marla had great times both in the water and on deck. Swimming FAST and meeting new friends is delightful way to spend a Saturday afternoon, agree? This was Jan's fist U.S. Masters Swim meet. Jan swam the 50FLY, 100IM and placed 1st in her 200BACK. Lisa, is just making a comeback to competitive swimming as she has been running rapids in a kayak over the past ten plus years. Lisa swam 200FREE, 100IM and placed the highest in her 200 BACK with a time of 3:14.38. This was also Marla's first U. S. Masters Swim meet, although she is not a stranger to swim competitions as she participated in swim team as a child. A young mom with two active young boys she manages to squeeze in time for practice and had a great first meet. Marla swam 200FR, 50FLY and places highest in her 100IM. So the talk on deck was, "When is the next meet?" "I'd love to swim in the OW (open water)." "This was a blast!"

Results may be found at: www.bluewave-aquatics.com

All swimmers are welcome to participate in the U. S. Masters Swimming workouts Tuesday/Thursday 6:30-7:30pm and Saturday 8:00-9:15am.
