Group Exercise at Seattle Athletic ClubThe idea behind group exercise is to enhance all health related components of fitness under the guidance of a qualified group exercise instructor. These components include cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Group exercise classes have grown to include sports conditioning, dance, step, indoor cycling, water classes, mind/body and more. A typical group exercise class is 60 minutes long and consists of a warm-up, cardiorespiratory segment and/or muscular strength and endurance segment, core work, cool-down and stretching. Seattle Athletic Club provides outstanding classes taught by some of the most experienced instructors in Seattle.

The group exercise instructors at Seattle Athletic Club are required to have at least 2 years teaching experience while maintaining current national certifications. Their experience and knowledge provide the foundation for the success of our participants. The professional instructors at SAC create an atmosphere that is safe and comfortable which allows participants to push themselves to succeed. The continuing education our instructors receive provides them with the most current research, which allows them to teach a safe and effective routine. In addition, the instructors at SAC are great coaches and motivators. Our excellent team of instructors will push you to reach your full potential while maintaining proper form and having fun doing it! Lastly, the state-of-the-art equipment provided in each studio will enhance your overall work-out.

Group Exercise Class Descriptions


This 30-minute intense core class will focus on your abs, obliques and back. All work is done either lying in the prone or supine positions. Repetition is the key to your success.


BODYPUMP is a 60 minute workout that challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for.

Cardio Blast

No frills, just drills! An intense, straightforward, hard-core cardio workout to tone and condition your body.Format varies but the concept remains the same – work out hard, sweat and get the results you are looking for!

Circuit Training

Circuit Training is an interval training class designed to challenge all fitness levels. Using a variety of different training techniques such as footwork, agility, strength, power and endurance, the goal of Circuit Madness is to challenge your body in new and exciting ways and to help add variety to your current gym routine. Intermediate to advanced.


Insanity uses max interval training. The class is broken down into several segments. Each segment rotation is executed approximately 3 times. Every time the segment is performed the movement becomes a little faster and more challenging.

This high-intensity activity forces the body to work for longer periods of time at a high capacity. As a result, people experience faster increases in cardiovascular fitness, and burn carbohydrates and fat more efficiently.

Interval Elite

This class consists of skills and drills – no fancy footwork required! Train like an athlete with the step, tubes, medicine ball and/or weights. Format varies but the concept remains the same – work out hard, sweat and get the results you are looking for!

Interval Training

This 45-minute class consists of high intensity, high impact moves to tone and shape your body. The intervals are 1 minute of cardio followed by 1 minute of conditioning.

Kickbox Conditioning

This class will build stamina, coordination and agility through combinations of basic kicks, strikes and footwork. Bob and weave your way to endurance and develop core control, strength, and dynamic balance of a martial athlete. This class will be a mix of choreography, intervals and partner exercises. Be prepared to sweat!

Power Sculpt

A 60-minute class designed to strength train all muscle groups utilizing free weights. This class will provide a simple and effective way to improve muscular strength, function, shape, and definition.

Sports Conditioning

This class consists of skills and drills – no fancy footwork required! Train like an athlete with the step, tubes, medicine ball and/or weights. Format varies but the concept remains the same – work out hard, sweat and get the results you are looking for!


This class incorporates the use of the step with basic to advanced choreography. Shape your lower body while stepping up and down, over and around your step! Core strength and conditioning at the end of class.

Ultimate Workout

A high-energy class designed to improve speed, coordination, strength, and agility while alternating high and low intensity exercises. Burn more calories to help you improve your physique, keeping you on the road to fitness!


Zumba® fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature interval-training sessions where fast and slow rhythms, and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got Zumba®!

Secrets to Successful Group Exercise Participation

  • Select a class that sounds exciting and motivating to you.
  • Introduce yourself to the instructor before class.
  • Let the instructor know you are new to class and inform him/her of any injuries you might have or modifications you might need.
  • Attend a new class more than one time before deciding if it is a good fit for you. The more you take a class, the more comfortable you become. Once you understand what the class is about and you are able to execute the moves properly and safely you will get a better all-around workout.
  • For proper recovery, make sure to give your body a day of rest in between the same class style. Our schedule is designed to give you options between cardio-style classes and weight bearing classes every day of the week.
  • Wear proper shoes such as cross trainers, which tend to give the best support for lateral movement while providing stability.
  • Wear proper attire that is comfortable and allows your body to move and breath.
  • Drink plenty of water before, during and after class.
  • Listen to your body.
  • Most importantly, have fun!
